CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte 49ers Head Softball Coach Aimee DeVos has announced the additions of Laura Valentino and Mendy McKenzie to the Niners softball staff for 2015. Valentino will handle several duties while McKenzie will serve as the pitching coach.

Valentino spent the last three years as the Assistant Coach at Fairfield University. She played a role in all facets of offense, defense, pitching and catching along with playing a significant role in the recruiting and administrative duties of the program. At Fairfield, Valentino helped the Stags to two MAAC Regular-Season Championships, three conference tournament appearances including two second-place finishes. Additionally, she coached four 2014 first-team MAAC selections, 2014 Pitcher of the Year, and the Stags catcher who was named MAAC Player of the Year and named NFCA Second Team All-Northeast Region in 2013. While coaching at Fairfield, Valentino also completed her Master’s Degree in Special Education.

McKenzie is a graduate of North Carolina State University. She served as her team captain and was voted MVP her senior year in 2009. After graduating in 2009, she worked as the pitching coach at College of Charleston. She helped lead her pitching staff to two All-Conference pitching awards and Conference pitcher of the year in 2011 in the Southern Conference. In 2012, she also had two pitchers make All Conference.  Mendy has also served as a pitching coach to young girls of all ages. 

Charlotte will begin the 2015 season in early February.
