Charlotte, N.C. - Charlotte 49ers football coach Brad Lambert has announced the hiring of Stanley Arnoux, Scotty Braswell and Matt Woodlief as graduate assistants. The trio join Aaron Curry, who was named to the staff as a graduate assistant in March.
Arnoux, a 2008 Wake Forest graduate, is a former standout linebacker who played for Lambert at Wake Forest. One of only three Demon Deacons to start three bowl games, Arnoux was Wake’s second-leading tackler as a senior in 2008, behind Curry. He had 89 tackles as a senior, with one interception, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. He had 5.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. As a junior, as Wake’s starting middle linebacker, he was third on the team with 66 tackles and had 3.0 sacks. He started each of Wake’s bowl appearances in 2006 (Orange Bowl), 2007 (Meineke Car Care Bowl) and 2008 (EagleBank Bowl) and was a member of the Demon Deacons 2006 ACC Championship team. He was drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the fourth round of the 2009 NFL Draft but suffered a torn Achilles tendon at minicamp costing him the 2009 season. On the Saints active roster for the first 10 games of 2010, Arnoux suffered a second Achilles tendon injury in November which marked the end of his NFL career.
Braswell served as a Strength and Conditioning intern for the 49ers football program during Charlotte’s inaugural season of 2013. A 2012 graduate of The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. with a degree in history, Braswell, a defensive back, was a two-year captain and four-year letterwinner for the Cardinals football program. Prior to joining the 49ers strength and conditioning staff in January of 2013, he served as an Intern Coach at Methodist University in 2012, working primarily with the defensive backs. He got his coaching start as a student assistant coach at Catholic University in the spring of 2012, following his playing career, once again working with the defensive backs.
Woodlief was also a member of the 49ers staff last year, working as the Video Coordinator intern during the 49ers inaugural season. A 2010 communications graduate of Wake Forest, he joined the 49ers football staff as the Video Coordinator Intern in July, 2012. He was a starting linebacker for the Demon Deacons in 2009 and 2010. A four-year letterwinner from 2006-10, he was a member of Wake’s 2006 ACC Championship team and the 2007 Meineke Car Care and 2008 Eaglebank Bowl teams. He was named third team all-ACC in 2010. A three-time Conference Player of the Year at Bandys High School, Woodlief played in the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas and was a two-year letterwinner in wrestling.
The 2014 season is the second season for Charlotte 49ers football. It will be the 49ers second and final year as an FCS Independent. The 49ers will move to Conference USA in 2015 with an opportunity to gain full FBS member status with bowl eligibility in 2016.
Charlotte accepted an invitation to join Conference USA on May 4, 2012 becoming one of the nation’s first teams to be welcomed into an FBS Conference before having held its first practice. Per NCAA guidelines, the 49ers will compete in the FCS for a mandatory two years before joining that FBS Conference.
