CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Charlotte Track and Field program heads to Jacksonville, Florida, to participate in the NCAA East Preliminaries this weekend, May 29-31. Nine individual athletes along with the men's 4x100m and 4x400m relay squads will compete in the prelims.
The men's 4x100m relay squad broke the school record at the Conference USA Outdoor Championships earlier this month posting a time of 39.84. The quartet of Anthony Bynum, John Osborne, LeRoy Rouse and Khyran Shank broke the relay record after setting the record of 40.00 last year at the NCAA East Prelims. Daniel Greer will serve as an alternate for the relay.
Christopher Boyd, Chris Tate, Anthony Bynum and Cordell Livingston will compete in the men's 4x400m relay with Phillip Bryant and Brian Hamilton serving as the relay alternates. Boyd, Tate, Bynum and Livingston broke the school record at the Conference USA Outdoor Championships after Boyd, Tate, Bynum and Hamilton broke the school record in April at the Florida Relays.
Anthony Campbell qualified for the men's triple jump posting the 35th overall jump (50-0.75) in the east region. Trey McRae will compete in the men's high jump after posting the 12th best height in the region clearing 7-1.5.
Daniel Freeman and Kerrick Williams will represent the throws for the men's with the javelin and the discus respectively. Freeman broke the school record in the javelin throw at the Conference USA Outdoor Championships with a throw of 215-4. Williams posted a distance of 178-2 in the discus at the Florida Relays.
Bynum and Livingston qualified for the 200m and 400m hurdles respectively. Bynum ran a 20.86 at the Florida Relays, while Livingston ran a 52.18 at the Aggie Last Chance meet.
Joann Blakney qualified for the 100m and 200m events. J. Blakney posted a personal best time of 11.52 in the 100m at the Conference USA Outdoor Championships along with a time of 23.74 at the Florida Relays in the 200m to qualify for multiple events.
Alvonna Blakney qualified for the 100m hurdles posting a personal best 13.72 in the event at the Conference USA Outdoor Championships.
T'Sheila Mungo qualified for the 400m dash with a performance of 53.41 at the Bill Carson Invitational.
Freeman will start the festivities off for the Niners on May 29th at 12pm competing in the men's javelin. Livingston (400m hurdles) will run at 4:30pm followed by J. Blakney at 6:55pm in the 100m and Mungo in the 400m at 7:45pm.
A. Blakney will run the women's 100m hurdles, May 30th at 5:30pm. Bynum and J. Blakney will run the 200m event at 8pm and 8:25pm respectively. Campbell will compete in the men's triple jump at 5pm.
Williams in the men's discus will throw May 31st at 12pm. McRae and the men's high jump is scheduled for 5pm. The men's 4x100m relay squad is set for a 6pm start followed by the men's 4x400m relay at 9:25pm.
