Charlotte, N.C. – Charlotte 49ers men’s tennis players junior Alex Calott and sophomore Jordi Massalle Ferrer were named to the Conference USA All-Academic team.

“I am very proud of Alex and Jordi for their academic accomplishments,” Charlotte coach Billy Boykin said. “It’s nice to see them get recognized for all of their hard work and diligence in the classroom.”

Calott, who earned Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference team honors last season, has a 3.95 GPA in Communications.

This season, Calott is tied for second on the team with 19 singles wins and he has compiled 10 doubles wins as well. In 2012, Calott earned second-team All-Atlantic 10 honors for his on-court performance.

Massalle Ferrer has a 4.00 GPA in Pre-Business.

This season, Massalle Ferrer has recorded a team-leading 20 singles wins. He enters the Conference USA Tournament with eight wins in his last nine matches. Massalle Ferrer has teamed with Kamil Khalil to record a 13-1 doubles record. Massalle Ferrer and Khalil were ranked 31st in the nation in the ITA Doubles Rankings earlier this season which is the highest ranking ever for a 49ers doubles team.

Last season, Massalle Ferrer earned first-team All-Atlantic 10 honors after winning a team-leading 25 matches which is tied for the seventh highest single-season total in school history.

Calott and Massalle Ferrer and the rest of the 49ers men’s tennis team plays Florida Atlantic in the first-round of the Conference USA Tournament, Thursday, April 17 at 11 am.
