Charlotte, N.C. – Behind eight singles and doubles wins, the Charlotte 49ers (12-6) cruised past Lenoir-Rhyne (6-17), 7-0, at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex in their final regular-season match. With the win, the 49ers finish the season 9-1 at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex.
"Overall, the guys played a pretty well rounded match today,” Charlotte coach Billy Boykin said. “I thought that Nate Shanok gave a very tough hard-nosed performance at number two singles and did a great job of closing out his match in the second set. This was a great send off for senior captain, Alex Weber. He played terrific tennis in both singles and doubles and the guys were all really fired up to play hard for him out there today. He has been such an important part of our team over the last four years and has really helped guide our program in the right direction. His influence and leadership will be sorely missed. He has a very bright future ahead of him."
Charlotte won two of the three doubles matches to claim the doubles point. At number one doubles, Charlotte’s Forrest Edwards and Jack Williams defeated Lenoir-Rhyne’s Robin Hochquertel and Hunter Pack, 8-4. At number two doubles, Charlotte’s Jordi Massalle Ferrer and Alex Weber, who was playing in his final home match, defeated Lenoir-Rhyne’s Filip Dobrosavljevic and Jordan Lawson, 8-3. At number three doubles, Charlotte’s Kamil Khalil and Carl Solik lost to Lenoir-Rhyne’s Matthew Ledford and John Christian Reid, 8-5.
Charlotte won all six singles matches to claim the overall victory. At number one singles, Charlotte’s Massalle Ferrer won his 20th match of the season with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Lenoir-Rhyne’s Hochquertel. At number two singles, Charlotte’s Nate Shanok defeated Lenoir-Rhyne’s Pack, 7-6, 6-2. At number three singles, Charlotte’s Alex Calott won his 19th match of the season with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Lenoir-Rhyne’s Dobrosavljevic. At number four singles, Charlotte’s Paul Cisti won his 15th match of the season with a 6-1, 6-1 at Lenoir-Rhyne’s Reid.
