Charlotte, N.C.- After defeating the Hoyas in yesterday's action, Megan Hyson and the Hoyas take the 49er Invitational Championship game 10-0 on Sunday afternoon.
Georgetown's starter Megan Hyson, fresh off a no-hitter last night, limited the Niners (8-7) offense to two hits. Jackie Kleinsmith picked up the first hit for the Niners in the bottom of the fourth inning. Courtney Carroll tallied the Niners other hit in the bottom of the fifth inning.
The Hoyas jumped on the board in the top of the first inning with a lead off walk, sacrifice bunt and an error to give Georgetown an 1-0 lead.
Georgetown plated another run in the third inning for a 2-0 lead before exploding in the top of the fourth inning putting up seven runs in the inning to jump out to a comfortable 9-0. Georgetown tallied another run in the top of the fifth inning for the last run of the game.
Jackie Kleinsmith led off the bottom of the fourth inning with a lead off double into the left center gap. Kleinsmith was stranded at second.
Charlotte's best chance to score was in the fifth inning. Courtney Carroll singled throught the left side of the infield. Natalie Capone was hit by a pitch to put two runners on but left them on the base paths.
Lexi Betancourt (7-3) picked up the loss tossing 3.1 innings allowing eight runs (seven earned) off six hits and walking five. Mackenzie Hauser relieved Betancourt in the top of the fourth and pitched 1.2 innings allowing two runs (one earned) off three hits.
Megan Hyson (4-3), 49er Invitational Most Valuable Pitcher, picked up the win tossing five shutout innings allowing two hits and two walks.
Charlotte heads to Cullowhee, N.C. to face the Catamounts of Western Carolina on March 5 at 3 pm.
