Birmingham, Ala.- The Charlotte 49ers finished up at the first Conference USA Indoor Championships back in the conference at the Crossplex in Birmingham, Ala. placing in sixth place for both squads.
Charlotte men's team finished in sixth place with 66.5 points, while the women's team finished tied for sixth with 53 points. East Carolina women's team took first place with 88 points followed by UTSA in second with 73 points. UTEP ran away with the men's title with 123 points. Louisiana Tech took second place with 77.5 points.
Joann Blakney started off the scoring for the women's after qualifying for the finals in the 60m dash. Blakney ran a personal best and took first place in the event running a 7.35 and grabbed 10 points. Briauna Jones finished in seventh and scored two points with a 7.52 performance.
Blakney also qualified for the finals in the 200m. Blakney picked up four more points grabbing a fifth place finish in the 200m finals with a 24.21 performance.
T'Sheila Mungo improved on her personal best in the 800m grabbing a second place finish and eight points running the 800m in 2:11.62. Mungo moved up the all-time list for Charlotte up to third place. Rachel Miller grabbed six points and a third place finish in the 800m running the event in 2:12.09.
Maraya Slatter picked up a fifth place finish in the mile with a 4:57.44 mile. Slatter scored four points for the women's squad. Slatter moved up to eighth on the all time list for Charlotte in the mile with that performance.
Charlotte's 4x400 meter relay finished fourth running the relay in 3:46.21 and picked up five points. The women's 4x400m relay team was comprised of freshmen Marissa Pinckney and Brittany Moss as well as sophomore Lauren Gulley and junior Mungo.
Lauren Gulley picked up three points and a sixth place finish in the women's high jump with a height of 1.66m. Briauna Jones picked up two points and a seventh place finish in the women's triple jump with a leap of 12.25m.
Katrina Wright picked up the final three points for the Niners in the women's weight throw claiming sixth place with a toss of 16.75m.
Kerrick Williams medaled in the men's weight throw with a personal best of 17.78m. Williams placed seventh in the shot put picking up 10 points in the weight throw and two points in the shot put.
Teammates Nick Swan and Nathan Jeffers finished third and fourth respectively in the men's heptathlon. Swan finished with 4926 total points and Jeffers finished with 4919 total points. Swan moved up to third and Jeffers moved up to fourth on the all time list for Charlotte in the event.
Trey McRae and Coye Still picked up points in the men's long jump. McRae finished in fifth and picked up four points with a leap of 7.20m. Still finished in seventh with two points and a leap of 7.09m. Anthony Campbell finished in third place in the triple jump with a leap of 14.94 picking up six points.
Charlotte ended the indoor season for some. After Conference USA times are submited, there is a chance for some athletes to move on to the NCAA Indoor Championships.
