Birmingham, Ala.- The Charlotte 49ers battle in day one of the Conference USA Indoor Championships hosted by UAB.
Nick Swan and Nathan Jeffers are sitting in scoring position in the men's heptathlon after four events. Swan sits in the third while Jeffers sits in seventh.
Zach Greth started the scoring for the men's team placing fourth overall in the men's 5000 meter. Greth had a time of 14:39.97 picking up five points for the men.
Rachel Miller and T'Sheila Mungo qualified in the prelims for the women's 800m finishing second and seventh respectively. Maraya Slatter missed out on the finals placing ninth. The top eight finishers move on to the finals. On the men's side, Michael Tamayo qualified seventh in the men's 800m during the prelims.
Joann Blakney and Briauna Jones qualified in the women's 60m dash finishing fifth and sixth respectively. LeRoy Rouse qualified in the final spot in the men's 60m dash. The finals for both men's and women's 60m dash will begin at 3:15 pm on Saturday.
Joann Blakney qualified for the 200m finals with the third fastest time with a peformance of 24.18.
Katrina Wright picked up three points for the women in the weight throw finishing in sixth. Wright had a performance of 16.75m (54' 11.5).
Kevin Calhoun finished tied for fourth in the men's pole vault picking up 4.5 points with a height of 4.75m (15'11). In the men's high jump, Trey McRae picked up five more points for the Niner men placing fourth with a jump of 2.10m (6' 10.5).
Kerrick Williams finished in seventh position in the men's shot put with a distance of 14.73m (48'4). Williams picked up two points for the men's squad.
The men's distance medley relay team picked up a sixth place finish and scored three points. Charlotte men's team is sitting in sixth place heading into the final day of the Conference USA Indoor Championships.
Complete results were not available at the time of release. Events start at 12 pm (11 am Central) on Saturday.
