Charlotte, N.C. – Terrence Williams led the 49ers in scoring, however, Charlotte (14-11, C-USA: 5-7) lost to Middle Tennessee (20-7, C-USA: 10-2), 71-49, in Halton Arena.
Williams recorded his 13th double-figure scoring game of the season with 11 points. Pierria Henry scored nine points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out four assists. Willie Clayton and Mike Thorne each tallied eight points. Marcus Bryan scored six points off the bench.
Charlotte finished the game with a 32-28 advantage on points in the paint.
Charlotte behind the scoring of Williams, Thorne and Clayton scored 10 of the game’s first 16 points over the first four and half minutes of the game.
Then, Middle Tennessee went on a 10-0 run over the next couple of minutes taking a 16-10 lead with 13:06 on the clock.
The 49ers answered Middle Tennessee’s run with a 6-0 run tying the score at 16 when Henry scored with 11:45 on the clock. Middle Tennessee outscored the 49ers, 19-9, over the remainder of the half taking a 35-25 halftime lead.
Clayton scored the 49ers first four points of the second half and when he scored inside with 18:45 on the clock the 49ers had cut Middle Tennessee’s lead to 37-29.
Charlotte cut Middle Tennessee’s lead to eight points several times in the second half but the 49ers could never get any closer.
The 49ers conclude their three-game home stand when they play Conference USA foe UAB in Halton Arena in a game that will be broadcast nationally by Fox Sports 1, Saturday, February 22 at 3:30 pm. Former 49ers men’s basketball greats will take part in the 49ers annual alumni game at 12:45 pm on Saturday. The 49ers will recognize the 49ers men’s basketball alumni in attendance at the game at halftime of Charlotte’s game with UAB.
