Charlotte, N.C.- The Charlotte Softball team has been off for 10 days due to weather heading into the match-up against South Carolina that was rescheduled from Feb. 12. Because of the snow forcing the Niners to miss out on the First Pitch Classic, Coach Aimee DeVos added a game against Radford to help the loss of four games over the weekend.
Charlotte split with Gardner-Webb nearly two weeks ago looking strong in game one with a 8-0 victory but struggled to find a groove in game two falling 6-3. The Niners will face a hot South Carolina squad that is 6-2 picking up 3-of-4 in the previous two tournament. The Gamecocks are led by freshman Nickie Blue who is the probable starter in the circle.
Charlotte will look to veteran Lexi Betancourt coming off a seven inning scoreless shutout in game one against Gardner-Webb to keep the Niners momentum going heading to game two against Radford. Freshman Mackenzie Hauser will be the probable starter in game two against Radford after getting the start in game two against Gardner-Webb picking up the loss.
Jackie Kleinsmith will look to continue her tear at the plate going 5-6 against Gardner-Webb. Samantha Slade and Chelsea Lisikatos will look to spark the 49er offense after hitting home runs in the win over Gardner-Webb.
Radford has yet to play a game after being snowed out as well over the weekend. The Highlanders were scheduled to play in the Triad Blue/Gold tournament in Greensboro, N.C. but were unable to make the trip due to heavy snow around the Radford, Va. area.
The Niners have made a limited impact against the Gamecocks trailing in the overall series 5-35 but have the upper hand in game two leading the series against Radford 16-9.
First pitch against South Carolina is slated for 4 pm with the match-up against Radford at 6:30 pm. Admission is free to 49er Softball games. Fans will be able to watch game one against South Carolina on Charlotte49erstv.com. The second game will be aired through stretch audio.
