In addition, in an independent national survey of more than 75,000 fans representing 68 schools, the Charlotte 49ers posted the highest scores among season-ticket holders for Game-Day experience. Last season, the 49ers attracted a standing-room only average of 15,541 fans to its six home games.
In their last year of FCS play, the 49ers have six home games and five road games. Three of the six home games are against teams that were ranked or receiving votes in the final FCS National polls: Charleston Southern, James Madison and Coastal Carolina.
Charlotte will play nine FCS institutions, including four that finished the 2013 season either in the FCS national polls or receiving votes. The home slate is highlighted by the Nov. 8 home contest against #7 Coastal Carolina, which won the Big South Championship and reached the NCAA FCS quarterfinals.
Home games also include a city showdown with Div. II Johnson C. Smith, Sept. 6; a rematch with top 25 Charleston Southern, Sept. 27 and a four-game homestand to conclude the season. The 49ers welcome former FCS National Champion James Madison, Oct. 25 before taking on the Chanticleers of Coastal Carolina. The schedule winds down with a Nov. 15 contest with Div. III power Wesley College and a Nov. 22 finale against Morehead State.
The 49ers open the season on the road at Campbell, Thurs., Aug. 28. After the home game with JC Smith they travel to NC Central (Sept. 13) and Elon (Sept. 20). After the home game with Charleston Southern, they hit the road again for showdowns with Gardner-Webb (Oct. 4) and The Citadel (Oct. 11).
The 49ers will enjoy bye weeks Oct. 18 and Nov. 1.
Like the 2013 schedule, the 49ers will be in action in each of the first seven weeks of the season, with five of those games coming on the road. Charlotte faced eight of the 2014 opponents in 2013, going 3-5. Two 2014 opponents finished the 2013 season in the FCS Simple Ratings System (SRS) Top 20: #7 Coastal Carolina and #16 Charleston Southern. Five opponents were in the SRS top 75.
Home games at Jerry Richardson Stadium will kick-off at 12:00 noon. Plans to add lights to the stadium have been pushed to 2015 to coincide with the 49ers move to Conference USA.
