Winston-Salem, N.C.- The Charlotte 49ers track program split the squad to compete in the JDL Hilton Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C. and took the other half to the Bob Pollock Invitational in Clemson, S.C.

At the JDL Hilton Invitational, Alvonna Blakney led off the contest by qualifying for the 60m hurdles in fifth with an 8.77 performance in the prelims.  Joshua Dunston and Nick Swan qualified for the 60m hurdles on the men’s side with 8.46 and 8.57 performances respectively.

Anthony Bynum and LeRoy Rouse kept the momentum going qualifying for the men’s 60m dash in the prelims.  Bynum finished with a time of 6.84, while Rouse finished with a 6.97.

Kevin Calhoun tied his career best and school record again vaulting 4.85m (15’11) in the men’s pole vault after clearing the mark at the Virginia Tech Invitational.

Briauna Jones led the way for the Niners in the women’s triple jump leaping 11.93m (39’ 1.75).  Dejah Hayes followed Jones with an 11.79m (38’ 8.25) performance.  Jessica Morgan rounded out the trio with an 11.47m (37’ 7.75) leap for a season best.  Anthony Campbell placed third in the men’s triple jump clearing 14.87m (48’ 9.5).

Mike Cross and Nathan Jeffers competed in day one of the men’s heptathlon.  Cross is currently in fourth and Jeffers sits in seventh after four events.  The men’s heptathlon continues tomorrow.

At the Bob Pollock Invitational, Chelsea Matson grabbed a second place finish in the 3k with an 11:11.65 performance in her first performance of the season.

Brittany Plummer improved her career best in the women’s pole vault and sitting in third all-time on the Charlotte’s indoor list.  Plummer vaulted 3.40m (11’ 1.75).  Jana Eatman improved her season best vaulting 3.10m (10’ 2).  On the men’s side, Scott Oosthuysen vaulted 4.35m (14’ 3.25).

Charlotte will continue in day two of both the JDL Hilton Invitational and the Bob Pollock Invitational tomorrow and wrapping up the weekend.
