Winston-Salem, NC – The Charlotte 49ers men’s tennis team lost on the road, 9-0, at 19th-ranked Wake Forest in their season opening match.

Wka Forest won three of the four doubles matches to claim the doubles point. At number one doubles, Charlotte Jack Williams and Alex Calott lost to Wake Forest’s Adam Lee and Pedro Dumont, who are the 30th-ranked double-team in the ITA rankings, 6-3. At number two doubles, Charlotte’s Kamil Khalil and Jordi Massalle Ferrer defeated Wake Forest’s Romain Bogaerts and Maksim Kan, 6-5 (7-2). At number three doubles, Charlotte’s Forrest Edwards and Paul Cisti lost to Wake Forest’s Jon Ho and Sam Bloom, 6-3. At number four doubles, Charlotte’s Alex Weber and Carl Solik lost to Wake Forest’s Awa Laaribi and Anthony Delcore, 6-2.

Wake Forest won all eight of the singles matches to claim the overall victory. At number one singles, Charlotte’s Forrest Edwards lost to Wake Forest’s Lee, who is ranked 59th in the latest ITA rankings, in three hard fought sets, 6-5 (8-6), 4-6, 6-3. At number two singles, Charlotte’s Williams lost to Wake Forest’s Ho, 6-3, 6-5 (7-4). At number three singles, Charlotte’s Khalil lost to Wake Forest’s Kan, 6-1, 6-3. At number four singles, Charlotte’s Calott lost to Wake Forest’s Laaribi in three hard fought sets, 6-2, 3-6, 6-5 (7-1). At number five singles. Charlotte’s Massalle Ferrer lost to Wake Forest’s Dumont in three hard fought sets, 6-5 (7-3), 5-6 (5-7), 6-4. At number six singles, Charlotte’s Cisti lost to Wake Forest’s Bloom, 6-5 (7-0), 6-4. At number seven singles, Charlotte’s Nate Shanok lost to Wake Forest’s Jaya Billa, 6-2, 6-3. At number eight singles, Charlotte’s Weber lost to Wake Forest’s Delcore, who is ranked 93rd in the latest ITA rankings, 6-1, 6-1.

The 49ers return to action when they begin a four-match home stand when they play Mercer at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex, Sunday, February 2 at 1 pm.
