The Charlotte 49ers volleyball squad fell on the road Friday night in three sets to North Texas (27-25, 25-15, 25-22) at the Mean Green Volleyball Center. The 49ers are 10-10 on the season, 0-5 in C-USA play. UNT is 12-9 overall, 4-1 in league play.

The opening set featured an amazing 20 ties and nine lead changes as neither team could pull away from the other. A pair of Camae Dillard kills with the set tied at 27 finished off the Niners in the frame.

Charlotte got in an early 8-4 hole, but fought back to get to within a point, at 13-12, but the Mean Green finished the set on a 12-3 run to take the 2-0 lead into intermission.

The third set had seven more tie scores and a pair of lead changes, but North Texas put together a 3-0 run after a 14-all tie, extending to six points to look like a runaway set. Charlotte mounted a 6-1 run in the late stages, but the run was ended on a Dillard kill for the match.

Charlotte’s offense was led by senior Amanda Videmsek (Highland Heights, Ohio / Beaumont School) and freshman Claire Kreuz (Boerne, Tex. / Samuel Champion HS) had seven kills each to pace the 49ers. Videmsek also led Charlotte with 14 digs and was in on seven of the 49ers’ nine blocks.

The 49ers will try to win their first conference match Sunday afternoon at Rice, starting at 2 p.m. Eastern.
