IRVING, Texas – Charlotte junior Amanda Jones was selected as the Oct. 7 Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday. Jones’ honor is the second for the 49ers this season and the first of her career.

The Mahwah, N.J., product netted two goals over the course of the home C-USA opening weekend, leading Charlotte to an East Division-tying lead through four league matches. The Niners are currently 7-4-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the conference after blanking UTSA Friday and garnering a draw against Middle Tennessee Sunday.

Jones, a Preseason Conference USA Player to Watch, opened her weekend with the game’s second goal in Friday’s 2-0 win over the Roadrunners. With her team ahead by one, she launched a 40-footer high over the UTSA defense and goalkeeper Bubba Makela, who was last week’s Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week, to give Charlotte an insurance score.

She added her second goal of the weekend, which proved to be the equalizer in Sunday’s 2-2 tie against the Blue Raiders. Her shot hit the underside of the crossbar and bounced just over the goal line to earn the referee’s signal and pull the 49ers even after they trailed by a pair at halftime.

Jones led all players in both games in shots, accumulating a combined 12 during the two matches, and reclaimed the team lead with five goals and 12 points. Her 30 shots also pace the Niners.

Alex Kubrick received Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week Aug. 26 honors following the season’s first weekend. Jones becomes the first C-USA Offensive Player of the Week for Charlotte since Kim Miles Oct. 13, 2003.

Jones’ only other weekly accolade from a conference came Sept. 26, 2011, when she was selected as the co-recipient of the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week.

Charlotte will take its East Division-leading record on an extended road trip this weekend, playing in the Lone Star State for two matches. The Niners open the stretch at 9 p.m. EST Friday in El Paso, Texas, against UTEP before making their way back east to square off against North Texas in Denton, Texas, at 2 p.m. Sunday.
