Charlotte junior Raoul Menard (Ange-Gardien, Quebec / Beaulieu) was today named the Conference USA Men’s Golfer of the Week, announced by the league office.

Tuesday, he posted his seventh Top-10 finish of his career with a tie for ninth at the Rees Jones Invitational, hosted by South Carolina at the par-72, 7,380 yard Haig Point Club. He dropped four birdies in the last 10 holes of his opening round to post a sub-par round to start the tournament. After a pair of three-over 75s, Menard stayed in the Top 10 in the field under windy conditions on Monday and Tuesday. Only one player finished under par, with one other ending at even par for the event.

Menard, the two-time defending conference medalist, was competing in his first rounds of the season, in his 23rd career event. In 66 career rounds, he has a 73.67 stroke average, adding four Top-Five finishes in his career, including winning the last two Atlantic 10 Conference titles. He was a four-time winner of the Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie Golfer of the Week, as well as a two-time All-Conference performer and 2012 and 2013 Player of the Year. This is his and the team’s first Conference USA weekly honor of this season.

As a previous member of the league, Charlotte golfers earned four Players of the Month and three more Golfer of the Week honors from 1996-2005.

The 49ers will hit the links next in a two-day tournament at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate in Vestavia Hills, Ala. beginning Monday, October 6.
