Charlotte junior golfer Raoul Menard (Ange-Gardier, Quebec City / Beaulieu) finished ninth individually as the 49ers landed in eighth place at the Rees Jones Invitational, hosted by South Carolina in Daufuskie Island, S.C. Charlotte put up a final score of +39 (291-306-306 – 903) at the event, two stroked behind Liberty and six ahead of Winthrop and Troy among the 12 teams at the event. Kennesaw State, the 2011 Rees Jones Invitational Champ, won at +21.
Menard’s Top-10 finish was the seventh of his two-plus year career at Charlotte. He posted a final round three-over 75 to end up at four-over (70-75-75 – 220) for the tournament. He had one birdie and four bogeys in a steady round for the 49ers.
Senior Franco Castro (Alpharetta, Ga. / LSU) shot an eight-over 80 in his final round, finishing at 1o-over par (74-72-80 – 226) and in a tie for 24th at the event.
Charlotte’s sophomore tandem of Daniel Brantley (Asheboro, N.C.) and Dan Hendry (Dubai, United Arab Emirates / Dubai College) both ended the three rounds at 13-over. Brantley (74-79-76 – 229) had the second-most pars for the day for Charlotte, with 12. Hendry (73-81-75 – 229) posted three birdies Tuesday to lead the 49ers in that category.
The 49ers will compete next at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate in Vestavia Hills, Ala., starting Monday, October 7.
