Charlotte volleyball opened its home portion of the 2013 schedule with a 3-0 sweep (25-15, 25-13, 25-17) of visiting South Carolina State Friday night to cap off day one of the 49er Invite. The 49ers have won five matches in a row, all 3-0 sweeps, and improve to 8-4 on the season. The Lady Bulldogs fall to 0-11.

Charlotte led all but the opening of the third set in the one hour, two minute match, the shortest of the season. The 49ers collected their second-highest attack percentage and service ace totals of the season, finishing at .299 with seven aces for the match.

Senior Amanda Videmsek (Highland Heights, Ohio / Beaumont School) led the team in kills for the third-straight match, tallying 10 Friday night. She has reached double figures in eight of the team’s 12 matches this season. Her seven digs were second on the team.

Libero Michelle Hovey (Raleigh, N.C. / Lighthouse) turned in the match-high of 15 digs, right at her five-per-set average for the season.

Sophomore setter Britney Leigh Held (Brookfield, Wis. / Brookfield Central HS) collected 27 assists, distributing the ball to five other players who logged kills. He added four kills on five attacks with no errors for an attack percentage of .800, her most efficient day of the season.

Freshman Claire Kreuz (Boerne, Tex. / Samuel Champion HS) dropped a four of the team’s seven aces and added seven kills. Her 17 total aces are nearly a third of the team’s overall total.

The 49ers will host Tennessee State on day two of the invitational at 12:30 p.m. before facing Elon in the 7 p.m. nightcap as part of a four-match final day of volleyball.
