Charlotte volleyball made quick work of host Norfolk State 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-20) to begin their three-match weekend at the Spartan Classic Thursday night at Echols Hall. The 49ers, led by 12 kills from senior Taylor Cannon (Elizabeth City, N.C. / Camtech HS), improved to 4-4 on the season.

Senior captain Amanda Videmsek (Highland Heights, Ohio / Beaumont School) added 11 kills and five blocks, with sophomore setter Britney Leigh Held (Brookfield, Wis. / Brookfield Central HS) kept her season average in assists per set by finishing with 33 in the match. She added six digs.

The 49ers held the Spartans to a negative attack percentage on the night, their best showing so far in 2013. Charlotte hit .242 as a team, including a .318 mark in the second set. Once the 49ers got the score to 4-3 in the second set, they did not trail again in the match.

Club team court mates, sophomore libero Michelle Hovey (Raleigh, N.C. / Lighthouse) and freshman Morgan Barker (Holly Springs, N.C.), each collected 11 digs to tie for the match-high lead.

Charlotte will take on Maryland-Eastern Shore Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. in day two of the three-day event.
