Charlotte volleyball plays a conference tournament-type schedule with three matches in three days at the Spartan Classic, hosted by Norfolk State University, starting Friday night at Echols Hall. Charlotte will battle host Norfolk State at 7 p.m. before facing Maryland-Eastern Shore Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. The weekend ends for the 49ers with a 3 p.m. match against Bethune-Cookman on Saturday.

The 49ers are 3-4, winning two of the last three matches in Chattanooga last weekend. The 49ers are led by senior captain Amanda Videmsek (Highland Heights, Ohio / Beaumont School), who leads the team in kills by one (87), is second in blocks by one (22) and is third on the team with 62 digs as she has become a six-rotation player. Sophomore Michelle Hovey (Raleigh, N.C. / Lighthouse) broke the school record with 38 digs in a match last weekend. She sits fourth in Conference USA with a 5.07 digs-per-set average.

The 49ers lead the league in kills per set, with 13.93, and are fifth in team assists, at 12.78 per set. Sophomore setter Britney Leigh Held (Brookfield, Wis. / Brookfield Central HS) sits third in C-USA, at 11.19 assists per set this season.

NSU enters the tournament 2-5, with a team attack percentage of .109 so far. UMES is 0-6, with a team attack percentage of .052 and assists average of 8.0 per set. Bethune-Cookman is 1-5 to this point, with an attack percentage of .068 and a kills average of 8.68 per set.

The 49ers will play their first weeknight match of the season next Tuesday at North Carolina A&T and finally play on the home court of Halton Arena next Friday in the 49er Invite.
