Charlotte, N.C.- The No. 21 Charlotte men’s soccer team defeated Winthrop in an exhibition match 2-0 at Transamerica Field on Tuesday night.  The 49ers dominated the point of attack all night out shooting the Eagles, 26 to six. 

Charlotte found the back of the net in the 18th minute with Anthony Perez taking a pass from Luke Waechter and Tyler Gibson for the early 1-0 lead.

Midway through the second half Aidan Kirkbride was fouled in the box for the Niners.  Tyler Gibson took advantage of the penalty and gave Charlotte a 2-0 lead.

Coach Kevin Langan stated, “Good opener from us, with an incredible crowd. It showed the power of social media.  Hopefully we can make them proud this season.”

Charlotte had 21 players see action in Tuesday’s exhibition leading to 11 different 49ers with shot attempts.  Kyle Parker and Giuseppe Gentile took multiple shots on goal but found the post. 

Klay Davis and Austin Pack kept the Eagles from finding the back of the net splitting time between the posts.

Charlotte men’s soccer returns to action on Saturday, August 24 against Davidson in an exhibition.  Kick-off is slated for 7 p.m.
