IRVING, Texas – Charlotte junior midfielder/forward Amanda Jones has been selected as the 49ers’ choice for a Conference USA Preseason Player to Watch as announced Tuesday by the league office. Each school picked one of its own players to be included in the list, which was released along with Colorado College as the preseason favorite.

Jones was honored as the Niners’ selected after earning 2012 All-Atlantic 10 Conference Second Team accolades. She is the team’s top returning scorer with seven goals and five assists for 19 points and was one of just three Charlotte players to start all 20 games last fall.

The Mahwah, N.J., product was ranked among the Top 20 players in the A-10 all season by last season, a year after garnering a spot on the 2011 All-Atlantic 10 Rookie Team.

Jones is one of eight returning starters and 18 letterwinners back for the 2013 49ers under fifth-year head coach John Cullen. Charlotte begins its 20th campaign as a varsity sport this fall. Preseason practice starts Thursday and leads up to the team’s exhibition contest Aug. 17 at UNC Asheville.

The first three regular-season matches are at home and are played at Transamerica Field. For ticket information, contact the 49ers ticket office at (704) 687-4949.
