The Charlotte 49ers and head coach Brad Lambert took part in Conference USA football media day Wednesday in Irving, Texas.

Lambert was shuttled through the FOX Sports Southwest studios to various video obligations in the morning session and then met with print, radio and additional electronic media in the afternoon session.

C-USA media day included each of the league's 14 football-playing members as well as coming arrivals Charlotte and Old Dominion.  Head coaches of each school and select players participated in the media day activities.

"Charlottes a part of the conference and we wanted to start telling the story -- and it's a great story," league commissioner Britton Banowsky said of the 49ers presence at Media Day, even though the 49ers football program will not join the league for two seasons.  Charlotte is a member of the league in all other sports.

The event gave Lambert an opportunity to talk about his start up program face-to-face with media members who were impressed with the facilities and staff already assembled.

"We want to build this program on the right foundation and with the right people," Lambert said.  "That's where it starts for us and I think we've done a good job of that over the last two years. I think we've set ourselves up for a good future and we want to continue to do that."

Charlotte will host its inaugural game, Aug. 31 at 12 noon vs. Campbell.  The 49ers will compete as an FCS Independent in its first two seasons before joining Conference USA in 2015.
