Charlotte, NC – The nationally-ranked Charlotte 49ers men’s soccer program, who has played in the NCAA Tournament in three of the last four years, face another difficult schedule in 2013 featuring seven 2012 NCAA Tournament teams. The 49ers are also hosting the 2013 Conference USA Tournament, November 13-17.
“We are very excited to announce our challenging schedule for the 2013 season,” said Charlotte coach Kevin Langan, who is entering his second season at the helm of the 49ers men’s soccer program. “We are looking forward to renewing our region rivalries before competing in one of the top conferences in the country. We have great experience within the team and they are relishing the opportunity to challenge themselves against some of the best programs in the nation. We have some fantastic home games for Niner Nation and the Queen City Army to get excited about.”
Charlotte, who has made eight NCAA Tournament appearances and two trips to the College Cup, begins the season with two exhibition games. First, the 49ers play 2012 NCAA Tournament participant Winthrop on the road in an exhibition game, Tuesday, August 20. Then, the 49ers play cross-county foe Davidson at Transamerica Field in their final exhibition game, Saturday, August 24.
The 49ers kick off the regular-season on the road at the University of Denver, Friday, August 30.
Charlotte host UNC Greensboro in their regular-season home opener, Tuesday, September 3.. Then, 49ers return to the road for three straight matches. First, the 49ers play at 2012 NCAA Tournament participant Coastal Carolina, Friday, September 6.. Then, Charlotte travels to Birmingham, Alabama to play in the UAB Soccer for a Cure Tournament, September 13-15. Charlotte begins the tournament with their Conference USA opener against 2012 NCAA Tournament participant UAB, September 13. This match will mark the 49ers fourth game against UAB in the last three years; the 49ers are 2-0-1 in those matches. Then, the 49ers conclude tournament play against Memphis, Sunday, September 15.
Then, the 49ers return to Transamerica Field for four straight matches. First, Charlotte plays Campbell at Transamerica Field, Saturday, September 21. Then, the 49ers place UCF at home, Tuesday, September 24.
The 49ers play South Carolina, who is an affiliate member of Conference USA for men’s soccer, in their Conference USA home opener against Friday, September 27.
Then, the 49ers begin a five-match stretch against teams that made the 2012 NCAA Tournament. Charlotte concludes their four-game home stand against ACC foe and 2012 NCAA Tournament participant Wake Forest, Tuesday, October 1.
Charlotte returns to Conference USA play when they play 2012 NCAA Tournament participant New Mexico on the road, who is an affiliate member of Conference USA for men’s soccer, Friday, October 4. Then, the 49ers play 2012 NCAA Tournament participant and Conference USA foe Old Dominion at home, Wednesday, October 9. Charlotte returns to the road with a game at Conference USA foe and 2012 NCAA Tournament participant Tulsa, Sunday, October 13.
Charlotte returns to Transamerica Field for a two-game home stand. First, the 49ers play 2012 NCAA Tournament participant Kentucky, who is an affiliate member of Conference USA for men’s soccer, Saturday, October 19. Charlotte then plays ACC foe Clemson at home in their final non-conference game, Tuesday, October 22.
The 49ers conclude the regular-season with three Conference USA games. Charlotte plays Florida Atlantic on the road, Wednesday, October 30. Then, the 49ers play Marshall at Transamerica Field in their final regular-season home game, Saturday, November 2. The 49ers conclude the regular-season on the road at Florida International, Friday, October 8.
The regular-season culminates with the seven-team Conference USA Tournament which will be played at Charlotte’s Transamerica Field, November 13-17.
