CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Senior Jake Deaton finished 11th in the discus throw at the NCAA East Preliminary Championship with a toss of 179’10 Thursday afternoon to advance to the NCAA Division I Championships in Eugene, Ore. held June 5-8.

Deaton qualified for the NCAA Championships by finishing in the top 12 of his event. Twelve competitors from each individual event and 12 teams from each relay event advance from each preliminary championships competition site to the final championships competition. Deaton will also compete in the shot put on Friday.

T'Sheila Mungo finished 20th with a qualifying time of 53.06 in the 400m dash to advance to Friday’s quarterfinal.

In other field events, Coye Still finished 14th in the long jump with a leap of 23'10. Katrina Wright represented Charlotte in the women’s discus throw and finished 40th with a toss of 140’0.

Khyran Shank clocked a time of 10.45 and finished 27th in the 100m dash.

In the 800m run, Maraya Slatter finished 45th with a time of 2:10.59. LeAnna Morrison also competed on Thursday and was 47th in the 400m hurdles (1:01.71).

The NCAA East Preliminary Championship will resume on Friday, May 24 at 10 a.m. and is being hosted by N.C. A&T at Irwin Belk Track and Field.
