Charlotte golf has completed its practice round and is ready to complete in the NCAA Columbus, Ohio Regional, which begins tomorrow morning. The Niners are paired with Virginia and San Francisco and will tee off from the 10th tee starting at 9:10 a.m.

The 49ers are completing in the program’s ninth-consecutive Regional, though only one player on the squad, sophomore Raoul Menard, has competed in the NCAA postseason. The 49ers are among 13 teams in Columbus, with the five-best team scores advancing to the National Championship in Atlanta in two weeks. Charlotte has posted six top-five finishes of 11 events, including capturing the 2013 Atlantic 10 Championship two weeks ago in Coral Springs, Fla.

There are six NCAA Regionals in competition, with the Niners taking on The OSU Golf Club Scarlet Course, site of 10 NCAA National Championships. The par-71, 7,455-yard layout has also hosted two NCAA Women’s Tournaments.

Charlotte’s advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2007 and 2008, finishing as high as tied for third at the National Championship, in 2007. The 49ers finished seventh at the regional that season, and followed that with a seventh-place finish at the Regional the next year, posting a tie for eighth at the 2008 National Championship.

Charlotte finished tied for seventh at the Southeast Regional in 2009 before a tie for sixth at the 2010 East Regional. In 2011, the 49ers were seventh in the Central Regional and landed 11th at the Greensboro Regional last season. Menard was Charlotte’s best finisher in Greensboro, tying for 16th with a plus-five 221.

The teams will be reseeded after each round of play, and paired off by scores for the second and third rounds, finishing on Saturday.
