CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Senior Briana Gwaltney and sophomore Samantha Slade were named to the 2013 Atlantic 10 All-Conference Second Team, while freshman Jessica Plemmons earned a spot on the Atlantic 10 All-Conference Rookie Team. Additionally, junior Chelsea Ingersoll was selected to the Atlantic 10 Softball Academic All-Conference Team, announced on Tuesday afternoon in voting conducted among the league’s head coaches.
"We are very proud to have these four players represent our program with their All Conference selections," Head Coach Aimee DeVos said. "It is a great reflection of their hardwork and effort they put forth this season."
Gwaltney, an outfielder from Anaheim Hills, California, has been an A10 All-Conference team honoree since her freshman season. This season, Gwaltney batted .320 and led the 49ers in runs batted in with 36. She also led the team in runs (32), was second on the team in home runs (seven) and third in hits (48). Five of her homers in 2013 came against A10 opponents. Gwaltney enjoyed an 11-game hitting streak, the longest on the team and broke the Charlotte career RBI record this season with a total of 141.
Slade, an infielder from Apex, N.C., earned her first A10 All-Conference team award after a solid season for Charlotte. She produced a batting average of .324 but hit .380 in conference play. She was second on the team in runs (31) and third in RBIs (29). Slade recorded 44 hits that included eight doubles, a pair of triples and home runs. Slade tallied eight stolen bases that ranked second on the team.
Plemmons, an outfielder from Lexington, N.C., dazzled in her freshman campaign. The rookie was third on the team in batting (.350) and led Charlotte in doubles (14) which ranked third in the league. Plemmons led Charlotte in the A10 with a batting average of .404. She recorded 49 hits, three home runs, and a pair of triples. She finished with 31 RBIs and a slugging percentage of .543. She led Charlotte with ten multiple RBI games and ranks in the top ten in batting, hits, runs, RBIs, and doubles in the Charlotte freshman records.
Ingersoll, a catcher and Charlotte native, made the Atlantic 10 Softball Academic All-Conference Team. Ingersoll, a Psychology and Pre-Biology major yields a 3.61 grade point average. She was recently named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Softball First Team. Ingersoll represented District 3 which includes North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. On the field, Ingersoll is second on the team in batting (.353). She led Charlotte in home runs (10) and is tied for second on the team in RBIs (31). Her batting average is ranked 10th in the A10. She has appeared every game for Charlotte this season and has a team-leading .455 on-base percentage.
