CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte softball team will play its regular season finale on Saturday, May 4 in Philadelphia when it visits La Salle for an Atlantic 10 doubleheader starting at 11 a.m.

The Niners (22-26 overall, 7-9 A-10) are coming off a split against Winthrop on Tuesday. Charlotte dropped game one 10-3 but rebounded with a 7-1 win in game two. The Explorers (15-29, 3-17 A-10) recently picked up a 5-1 win against Rider on Wednesday.

In their last meeting, Charlotte swept La Salle with scores of 1-0 and 6-1 last April at the D.L. Phillips Complex.

Charlotte’s offense is headed by the consistent efforts of Natalie Capone (.363), Chelsea Ingersoll (.361), Jessica Plemmons (.333), Briana Gwaltney (.331), and Samantha Slade (.300). However, the 49ers saw some power from Kalie Lang on Tuesday as she crushed her seventh homer of the season, which is tied for second on the team.

Kendra Heyer leads the Explorers with a .336 batting average. She also leads the team in hits with 38. Megan Hodgson (.298) also contributes with a team-leading 37 RBI and nine home runs.

The Explorers will meet Katie Watkins and Chelsea Lisikatos in the circle on Saturday. Watkins remains fourth in the conference in strikeouts with 140. Watkins has also held her opponents to a .269 batting average. Lisikatos has produced a team-leading 3.75 earned run average.

Mary Cate Scott (7-9) and Alicia Aughton (8-16) have aided the Explorers in the circle. Aughton has recorded 73 strikeouts this season.
