CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte softball team will conclude its regular-season home finale on Tuesday, April 30 when it hosts Winthrop for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 7 p.m. at D.L. Phillips Complex.

The Niners (21-25 overall, 7-9 Atlantic 10) are coming off a split with Saint Louis on Friday. The Eagles (24-23, 12-9 Big South) who haven’t played in nine days, are riding a three-game sweep of Liberty on April 20.

This season the 49ers are 6-2 against Big South teams. Charlotte has swept Radford, Gardner-Webb, and Presbyterian but fell twice to Campbell in a doubleheader.

Winthrop is led by McKenzi Corn who is hitting a solid .399. Corn also leads the Eagles in hits (55), runs (38), and doubles (13). Chelsey Schoenfeldt is Winthrop’s homerun leader with 14 on the season. She’s batting .343 and leads the team in RBIs (52).

The Eagles are led by Sutton Watson in the circle. Watson has turned in a 14-12 performance this season along with a 3.12 earned run average (ERA). Watson has also recorded 126 strikeouts. Winthrop also has help in the circle from Dallas King, Schoenfeldt, and Sara Allen.

Natalie Capone (.357) heads Charlotte’s offense with 50 hits. Chelsea Ingersoll (.352) has a team-leading nine homers along with 45 hits. Jessica Plemmons (.341), Briana Gwaltney (.321), Lindesy Holloman (.300), and Samantha Slade (.299) have each been consistent batters in the 49ers’ lineup.

In the circle, Watkins (13-14) has been Charlotte’s ace. She has turned in a 3.60 ERA and a team-high 135 strikeouts. Chelsea Lisikatos has recorded a 3.99 ERA in 112.1 innings pitched.

Tuesday’s game will be Charlotte’s final non-conference game as it wraps up the season when it visits La Salle on Saturday, May 4.
