Charlotte golf posted the second- lowest round of the day and will take a seven-stroke lead into the final round on Sunday at the 2013 Atlantic 10 Championships, being contested at the Par-72, 7,268-yard Heron Bay Golf Club in Coral Springs, Fla.
Charlotte went three-under (285) and was one off the low round of the day, posted by Temple. Charlotte leads VCU by seven strokes at 13-under for the weekend (278 – 285 -- 563). VCU is at six-under, with Temple at five-under through the first two rounds.
"Another good round for us today," said head coach Ryan Cabbage. "Conditions were similar to yesterday when the golf course did not play easily in the afternoon. Our guys hung in there and played well. Joe, Raoul and Thomas were very good, just like yesterday. Braeden was a nice contributor today with a hard-fought 73. We are excited to be in the position we are in and focused on tomorrow. We are looking forward to getting back out there and playing well once again."
Charlotte sophomore Raoul Menard (Ange-Gardier, Quebec City / Beaulieu) is tied overall for the tournament led, vying to repeat as Medalist and Player of the Year honors. Menard was one-under with a 71 today to sit at six-under overall (67-71 – 138) to sit in a tie with VCU’s Steffen Harm at the top of the leader board. Menard posted three birdies and a pair of bogeys for his one-under par round.
Freshman Thomas Rowland (Consett, England / St. Bedes Catholic School and Sixth Form College) also posted a one-under 71 to sit alone in fourth place at four-under (69-71 – 140). He posted four birdies, a bogey and a double bogey to finish two strokes out of the overall lead.
Junior Joe Toland (White River Junction, Vt. / Hartford HS) went two-under par 70 today to sit in a tie for ninth at one-under overall (73-70 – 143). Toland was up and down all day, logging five birdies and three bogeys for an outstanding round.
Senior Braeden Cryderman (Huntsville, Ontario / Queens University of Charlotte) was just one-over for the day to help the team stay in front. Cryderman had two birdies and three bogeys to go with 13 pars for a solid and even day on the course.
The third round starts at 7:30 with the first groups of the day going off on the first tee. Charlotte will be paired with VCU and Temple in the final groups of the day, to tee off at approximately 10:30 a.m. in search of a seventh title in eight years of A-10 membership and a ninth-straight trip to the NCAA Regionals.
