For the second time this season, the 49ers swept the Atlantic 10 men’s tennis weekly honors. Sophomore Jack Williams was named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week. Jordi Massalle Ferrer was named Atlantic 10 Co-Rookie of the Week for the second time this season. Members of the 49ers men’s tennis team were named A-10 Player and Rookie of the Week on March 19th as well.

Williams is the third Niner this season and the eighth different Niner ever to claim A-10 men’s tennis player of the week honors. Fellow sophomores Paul Cisti (February 12) and Alex Calott (March 19) earned A-10 Player of the Week honors earlier this season.

Williams was named A-10 Player of the Week after recording his 17th singles win of the season with a 6-3, 6-4 win over UNC Greensboro’s Ahmet Sarioglu at number one singles en route to the 49ers 5-2 win over UNC Greensboro, April 15. He teamed with Massalle Ferrer to pick up a doubles win over UNC Greensboro’s Sarioglu and Daniel Mark. This victory marked the pairs 11th doubles win of the season.

Massalle Ferrer was named A-10 Rookie of the Week for the second time this season. He was named A-10 Rookie of the Week on March 19 as well. Massalle Ferrer defeated UNC Greensboro’s James Dougherty, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, at number two singles for his 25th win of the season. His 25 singles wins is tied with Ken Whitaker and Sasha Parc for seventh highest single-season total in school history.

Massalle Ferrer, Williams and the rest of the third-seed Charlotte 49ers men’s tennis team will open play in the Atlantic 10 Championship against La Salle, Thursday, April 25 at 12 pm.
