The Charlotte 49ers men’s tennis team (12-9) is seeded third out of the 14-team field at this week’s Atlantic 10 Championship. The 49ers will face 14th-seed La Salle in the first round, Thursday, April 25 at 12 pm.

"We are looking forward to this week's A-10 Tournament," Charlotte coach Billy Boykin said. "The A-10 Tournament field is the best field that the league has had since I have been coaching the Atlantic 10. We will need to be at our best to be successful this week."

For the second straight year, the A-10 Championship will be played at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio.

Charlotte has reached at least the semifinals of the A-10 Championship three times. Charlotte captured their first-ever league title when they defeated Xavier for the 2007 A-10 Championship. The 49ers reached the 2006 A-10 Championship match

Jordi Massalle Ferrer leads the 49ers with 25 singles wins. Massalle Ferrer’s 25 singles wins ties him for the seventh highest single-season wins total in school history. Paul Cisti is second on the team with 18 singles wins. Jack Williams and Alex Calott each have 17 singles win. Kamil Khalil, who has won six of his last seven singles matches, has 11 wins this season. Krzysztof Kwasniewicz has tallied 10 singles wins this season.

Khalil and Kwasniewicz have combined for 11 doubles wins. Massalle Ferrer and Williams have posted an 11-4 doubles record this season. The doubles team of Calott and Cisti have won 10 doubles matches this season.

The Atlantic 10 Championship is a single-elimination tournament where the first team to four points is declared the winner of each match.

Charlotte’s match with La Salle will mark the third meeting between the two teams. The 49ers have won both of the previous meetings.
