CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The 49ers finished with eight season-best performances after the first day of the Charlotte Invitational at the Irwin Belk Track and Field Center.

Osvaldo Hernandez was Charlotte’s only first place finisher on Thursday. Hernandez won the javelin with a toss of 182’1.

Maraya Slatter highlighted the 800m and was the top collegiate finisher and second overall with a season-best time of 2:08.36. Taylor Carcella was sixth overall and the third collegiate finisher with a season-best time of 2:12.75, which moves to fifth on the Charlotte all-time list. Jenna Christensen was seventh overall (2:16.34). In the men’s 800m, Christian Norbye was eighth with his fastest time of the season, 1:52.87 that moves to ninth on the all-time list.

Jake Deaton was third in the hammer and recorded his longest toss of the season (168’9) which moves to fourth on the all-time chart. Kenneth Pressley had a personal-record toss of 167’9 to finish fourth. John Celona was sixth (156’7) and Victor Campbell turned in a season-best toss of 153’1 that is ninth on the all-time list. Katrina Wright led the Niners in the hammer and was fourth (164’7). Toby Jo Klauenberg (150’3) and Aubrey Dowding (148’7) had season-best throws to finish seventh and eighth respectively.

Brittany Ann Leffler was third in the javelin (130’2), Dowding was fourth (129’0) and Jana Eatman was sixth with a season-best throw of 120’5. On the men’s side, Daniel Freeman was fourth (167’8) and Robert Wilson was fifth (151’2).

In the 5000m, Nathan Tallada finished third (15:48.59). Ashley Edwards was second for the 49ers (18:30.00) followed by Lauren Pollard in third (19:14.79) and Caragh MacDermott  in sixth (19:35.21).

The final day of the Charlotte Invitational will conclude on Friday, April 19 beginning at 11 a.m. with the field and running events.
