Charlotte 49ers men’s basketball freshman forward Willie Clayton was named one of’s Top 25 freshmen. Clayton was ranked 21st in the listing that was compiled by ESPN Insider’s John Gasaway.

This past season, Clayton was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie team. He also earned Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honors (January 7) after scoring 16 points and grabbing a season-high 16 rebounds in the 49ers victory over UNC Asheville.

Clayton led the Atlantic 10 in field goal percentage (57.9%) and he finished third in the A-10 in offensive rebounds at 3.1 boards per game. He led Charlotte in rebounding at 6.2 boards per game. He finished fourth on the team in scoring at 8.5 points per game. Clayton recorded 15 double-figure scoring games including a season-high 18 points in the 49ers Atlantic 10 Tournament win over Richmond. He recorded four double-figure rebounds games and four doubles-doubles. Clayton was one of two 49ers that started every game this past season.
