Charlotte, NC – Behind five singles victories, the Charlotte 49ers (12-9) defeated UNC Greensboro (14-4), 5-2, at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex in their final regular-season match.
“This was a great win for our team,” Charlotte coach Billy Boykin said. “UNC Greensboro had only three losses coming into today’s match and has the talent to be an NCAA Tournament team. We competed hard the whole time and played our best tennis at the end. I’m happy for our guys and especially happy for our two seniors (Hector Linares and Krzysztof Kwasniewicz). They’re great kids and this was a sweet way for them to go out on Senior Day.”
UNC Greensboro won two of the three doubles matches to claim the doubles point. At number one doubles, Charlotte’s Jordi Massalle Ferrer and Jack Williams defeated UNC Greensboro’s Ahmet Sarioglu and Daniel Mack, 8-4, for their 11th win on the season. At number two doubles, Charlotte’s Paul Cisti and Alex Calott lost to UNC Greensboro’s James Dougherty and Gaston Murray, 9-7. At number three doubles, Charlotte’s Kwasniewicz and Kamil Khalil lost to UNC Greensboro’s Jimmy Roueche and William Albright, 8-5.

At number two singles, Charlotte’s Massalle Ferrer defeated UNC Greensboro’s Dougherty, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, for his 25th win of the season. With the win, Massalle Ferrer moved into a tie with Sasha Parc (1998) and Ken Whitaker (1979) for the seventh most wins in a single-season in school history. At number three singles, Charlotte’s Khalil saw his seven-match winning streak end with a 6-3, 7-5 loss to UNC Greensboro’s Murray.
