CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte track and field team will compete at the N.C. A&T Aggie Invitational beginning on Friday, April 12 in Greensboro.

The two-day meet opens with the men’s javelin throw and women’s hammer throw at 1 p.m. on Friday. The running events start at 4 p.m. and the men’s and women’s 10,000 meters concludes the day. The field and running events will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday.

A few Niners will travel across town to compete at the Johnson C. Smith Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The hammer and the javelin will be the only events on Friday as Saturday is slated for a full day of events.

Charlotte is coming off an effective weekend at the Florida Relays and Duke Invitational where it recorded several season-best performances. Freshman Alvonna Blakney, who is a member of the shuttle hurdle relay team that set a new school record (56.70) at the Florida Relays, was named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week. Blakney also turned in a season-best time of 14.00 in the 100m hurdles.

The 4x100m relay team (Chelsie Carlton, Briauna Jones, Sarah Justice, and Blakney) along with the 4x400m relay team (T’Sheila Mungo, Jaleah Wilder, Blakney, and LeAnna Morrison) finished with season-best times at the Florida Relays.

Maraya Slatter (800m), Rachel Miller (800m), Morgan Richards (3000m and 2000m SC), Maria Ruiz (1500m and 2000m), Lauren Gulley (high jump), and Jones (triple jump) recorded personal record times and marks.

The Charlotte men picked up five top 20 performances at the Florida Relays. Jake Deaton was the top collegiate finisher and second overall in the invitational discus throw with a toss of 180’8. Deaton was also tenth overall in the invitational shot put (56’04.75), Robert Wilson was 12th in the pole vault (15’05).

 In the 800m, Sean Kluttz (1:53.51) and Michael Tamayo (1:53.62) finished with season-best times.

The 4x100m relay team (John Osborne, LeRoy Rouse, Anthony Bynum, and Khyran Shank) finished 11th with a time of 40.78. The 4x400m relay team (Brian Hamilton, Christopher Boyd, Bynum, and Chris Tate) finished 18th (3:12.87).

Following the N.C. A&T Aggie Invitational and Johnson C. Smith Invitational, the 49ers will host the Charlotte Invitational on April 18-19.
