PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Chelsea Ingersoll’s two-run homer in the fifth inning wasn’t enough for the Charlotte softball team who dropped a 4-2 Atlantic 10 game to Temple, Friday afternoon at the Temple Softball Stadium.

Charlotte fell to 14-12 overall and 2-2 in the A-10. Temple (11-14) improved to 3-1 in conference play.

Despite Charlotte’s eight hits to Temple’s four, the Niners were unable to connect hits and left seven runners on base.

The 49ers’ only runs came in the fifth inning when Ingersoll hit her third home run of the series, a two-run shot with two outs over the left field wall to cut Temple’s advantage to 3-2.

The Owls scored their final run in the fifth inning after Charlotte walked in a runner with bases loaded to give them the 4-2 lead.

Charlotte loaded the bases in the fourth inning with one out after Jessica Plemmons walked. Samantha Slade and Kalie Lang reached on singles but Temple prevented the Niners from scoring.

Chelsea Lisikatos led off the third inning with a single to right field and Chelsea Stamey moved pinch runner Hayley Lewis to second with a sac bunt. The Owls retired the next batter but Alex Rogers drew a walk to put runners on first and second. However the 49ers were unable to capitalize and continued to trail the Owls.

In the first inning Temple scored a run with two outs and a runner on second off a RBI-single from Stephanie Pasquale. The Owls took the 3-0 lead in the second inning after Devynne Nelons hit a two-run homer. Temple loaded the bases with two outs following a hit and a pair of walks but Charlotte escaped the inning due to a groundout.

Lisikatos (5-3) finished the game with three strikeouts. Katie Watkins relieved Lisikatos in the fifth inning, allowed no runs, and retired one batter.

Natalie Capone and Slade finished with two hits each. Capone recorded her 11th multiple hit game.

On Saturday, the 49ers will close out their Philadelphia tour with a conference doubleheader against St. Joseph’s starting at noon.
