A pair of even-par rounds of 72 for freshman Thomas Rowland (Consett, England / St. Bedes Catholic School & Sixth Form College) put him in a tie for 17th and his best finish in team competition at the Linger Longer Invitational this weekend at the Par-72, 7,073-yard Great Waters Course in Greensboro, Ga.

Rains suspended play in the middle round one and darkness suspended play in the middle of round two last night. Course conditions warranted a delay to the resumption of Sunday’s round two, which canceled round three and shortened the tournament to 36 holes.

After completing 12 holes in his second-round yesterday, Rowland finished with six pars on Sunday to complete his 72 in round two and the 144 to lead the 49ers at the tournament. His junior teammate, Franco Castro (Alpharetta, Ga. / LSU), carded a birdie and a bogey on Sunday to finish with a four-over 76 and a total of five-over 149 and a tie for 36th.

The 49ers finished ninth of 14 teams with a score of 19-over par (297-298  595) for the two rounds.

Charlotte’s next tournament will be in Kannapolis, N.C. at the Irish Creek Collegiate, April 6-7.
