Charlotte golf will head to Greensboro, Ga. to compete in its eighth tournament of the season, at the Linger Longer Invitational, hosted by Kennesaw State University at the Great Waters course at Reynolds Plantation. The 49ers will join a stacked field that includes four teams ranked in the Top 15 this week by Golfweek.

Second-ranked Alabama, 11th-ranked Georgia Tech, 13th-ranked Oklahoma State and 15th-ranked Georgia are among 15 teams vying for this year’s title on the Par-72, 7,073-yard championship course. Alabama is the two-time defending champion of the event.

Charlotte 49er Trevor Murphy tied for the individual champion honors in 2006 with a five-under 211 for the weekend.

"We are very excited to be playing on an outstanding course and against such a strong field," said Charlotte head coach Ryan Cabbage. "We enjoy the challenge and have high expectations for ourselves when we tee it up."

The teams will play 54 holes, including a 36-hole Saturday and a final 18 holes on Sunday. The shotgun start Saturday morning begins at 8:30 a.m. Teams will go off on holes one and 10 on Sunday in pairings starting at 8:30 a.m.

Charlotte’s junior duo of Franco Castro (Alpharetta, Ga. / LSU) and Joe Toland (White River Junction, Vt. / Hartford HS) will anchor the squad up in Greensboro this weekend. They are the only two golkfers to play in all seven of the team’s tournaments this season. They also tie for the lead with eight rounds of golf at par or better this season.

Senior Braeden Cryderman (Huntsville, Ontario / Queens University of Charlotte) will be playing in his fourth tournament for Charlotte this season. He has a team-best 73.1 stroke average in nine rounds played this season.

The 49ers will be bringing a pair of freshmen to Greensboro this weekend. John Boehme (Jacksonville Beach, Fla. / Sandalwood HS) will be playing in his first event as a team member this season and Thomas Rowland (Consett, England / St. Bedes Catholic School & Sixth Form College) will be playing his third team event this season. Boehme and Rowland both played well as individuals in separate events for Charlotte in February to earn a spot on this weekend’s lineup list.
