Charlotte 49ers head football coach Brad Lambert has announced two updates to upcoming schedules.
The 49ers have announced that they have inked a series with Eastern Michigan for 2016 and 2017 and with Elon for 2014 and 2016.
Charlotte will host Eastern Michigan, Sept. 3, 2016 and travel to Ypsilanti, Mich., Sept. 2, 2017. Charlotte will travel to Elon, Sept. 20, 2014 and host the Phoenix on Oct. 1, 2016.
“We are excited about announcing these additions,” said 49ers head coach Brad Lambert. “These games give our schedule some of the variety we want — our goal is to play division I schools from a variety of conferences. It’s great to have another school from our region, both for our team and our fans, and I like that we’ve been able to reach out to different regions, as well.”
The 49ers, who begin play in 2013 as a Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) independent, will move to the Football Bowl Subdivision’s (FBS) Conference USA in 2015 with the opportunity to become a full FBS member with bowl eligibility in 2016.
The Charlotte 49ers, who completed their on-campus 15,300-seat football stadium in the fall, opened spring practice Mar. 18. Spring practice will continue through April 20, when the 49ers will host their first Spring Game at 1:00 p.m.
The schedule for the 2013 inaugural season is complete.
