CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte’s Jake Deaton was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Performer of the Week, while teammate T'Sheila Mungo was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Women’s Track and Field Performer of the Week. Additionally, Anthony Campbell received Men’s Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league office Tuesday for meets competed Mar. 11-17.
Deaton, a senior, garnered Men’s Performer of the Week after competition this past weekend at the Charlotte 49er Classic. The Mooresville, N.C., native placed first in both the shot put, with a throw of 18.05m, and the discus, with a school record throw of 55.92m to lead the Atlantic 10.
Mungo, a sophomore, earned Women’s Performer of the Week honors after competing in the 400m at the Charlotte 49er Classic. The Charlotte, N.C., native placed first out of 72 competitors with a time of 53.65 seconds. Her time led the conference and is second in the NCAA east region after Saturday’s competition. Mungo also anchored the 4x4 relay team that finished third with a time of 3:52.34.
Campbell received Men’s Rookie of the Week after securing a second-place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 15.36m, and a personal record mark of 6.81m in the long jump.
Charlotte will compete at the Vertklasse in High Point, N.C. on March 22-23. Throwers of the Charlotte track & field team will be competing at the Weems Baskin Invitational hosted by South Carolina on March 22-23.
