CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte women's tennis team garnered the doubles point and then split the six singles matches to salvage a 4-3 triumph on a beautiful Saturday afternoon over North Carolina Central at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex.

The 49ers inched ahead 1-0 early by claiming wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles, leaving the No. 2 meeting unfinished. The top doubles pairing for Charlotte (7-4), senior Anna Ekelund and sophomore Lisa Grosselius, handed Ekaterina Nekrasova and Rebecca Wood an 8-5 setback, while freshman Jessica Pérez and senior Alexandra Zinn rolled to an 8-0 blanking against Julia Aguilar and Brianna Gaston in the No. 3 meeting.

Charlotte then held off any North Carolina Central (9-4) attempt at a comeback by tallying victories at the No. 2, No. 5 and No. 6 singles positions and snapping a three-match skid in the process.

The Niners' three singles wins all came in straight sets, including a Natsuko Takayanagi 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Nekrasova at the No. 2 slot.

Ekelund then continued her momentum with a 6-3, 6-1 decision against Mia Ramic at the No. 5 position, while senior Iveta Guneva handed Gaston a 6-1, 6-0 loss in the No. 6 contest.

The 49ers will return to the home courts for their next match, a 2:30 p.m. first serve Tuesday tilt with Wofford.
