CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Senior Jake Deaton dominated the field events by winning a pair of events and setting a new school record on the final day of the 49er Classic at the Irwin Belk Track & Field Center on Saturday afternoon.
Deaton’s toss of 183’05 in the discus broke his previous school record of 182’10 set in 2011. He also won the shot put with a toss of 59’02.75.
Aubrey Dowding’s toss of 134’08 in the javelin was good for fifth place, breaking the previous school record of 134'01 set in 2011.
T'Sheila Mungo set a new personal record in the 400m to win the event with a time of 53.65.
The men’s 4x100m relay team (Isaac McReynolds, Khyran Shank, Anthony Bynum, and LeRoy Rouse) won the event with a time of 40.76. Jason Ross, John Osborne, Casey Evans, and Jamil Muhammed-Ray finished fourth in the event (42.21).
McReynolds also came in second in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.38.
LeAnna Morrison finished in the top two in a pair of events on Saturday. She was second in both the triple jump (40’06) and 400m hurdles (1:01.70). Her mark in the triple jump moves to fifth on the Charlotte all-time list.
Freshman Anthony Campbell finished second in the triple jump with a leap of 50’04.75 that ranks third on the all-time list.
Khyran Shank and Bynum finished in the top five for Charlotte in the 200m. Shank was the runner-up with a time of 21.11 and Bynum’s fifth place time of 21.38 is eighth on the all-time chart.
In the women’s shot put, Toby Jo Klauenberg finished third with a throw of 44’04.
The 4x800m relay team (Jenna Christensen, Tianna McHenry, Nicole Morgan, and Lauren Pollard) finished third with a time of 9:47.67. The 4x400m relay team of Mungo, Jaleah Wilder, LeAnna Morrison, and Alvonna Blakney) were third (3:52.34).
In the 2000m steeplechase, Ashleigh Handchen was fourth (7:40.13) and Lauren Pollard followed in fifth with a time of 7:40.16. Handchen’s time ranks tenth on the all-time list. On the men’s side, Cody Hodgins finished fourth (6:19.18) and Michael Colven was sixth (6:30.20). Hodgins’ time in the steeplechase moves to tenth on the all-time list.
Morrison had a time of 13.94 in the 100m hurdles to finish fifth. Her time ranks third on the all-time list. Juanito Leto was sixth (14.12).
Charlotte will compete at the HPU VertKlasse meet, hosted by High Point beginning on Friday, March 22.
