CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte men's tennis team locked up its fourth-straight shutout and seventh overall this season by handing Texas-Pan American a 4-0 setback on a windy Thursday afternoon at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex.

"We were slow out of the gates today but rebounded with pretty strong finishes across the board in doubles," head coach Billy Boykin said. "We kept our focus in singles play and did enough to come away with a win.

"The toughest few weeks of our season are coming up next. We'll need to keep pushing in practice if we want to realize our best tennis during this stretch."

The 49ers (9-5) earned an early 1-0 lead by taking both of the top-two doubles matches by identical 8-4 scores. At No. 1 doubles, Jordi Massalle Ferrer and Jack Williams topped Sebastien Job and Alejandro Sanoja, while the No. 2 duo of Alex Calott and Paul Cisti knocked off Ricardo Hopker and Chetan Panditi by the same margin.

Charlotte then put the Broncs (4-9) away by garnering three straight-set singles decisions.

Massalle Ferrer posted a 6-2, 6-3 triumph against Hopker at No. 2 singles and Calott defeated Sanoja 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 3 meeting.

The final Niners victory was at the No. 4 slot, as Cisti won 6-3, 6-2 against Job.

Charlotte returns to the courts at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Lynchburg, Va., against Liberty. It is the first of five straight away matches for the 49ers.
