GREENSBORO, N.C. – Charlotte combined for 20 hits on Wednesday and split a pair of games with Greensboro at the UNC-G Softball Stadium.

Charlotte’s offense is ranked ninth in the nation by the NCAA.

After dropping game one 8-6, it was Charlotte (12-10 overall) who evened the score in game two with an 8-4 win.

Charlotte put the game’s first runs on the board in the sixth inning to clinch a 5-0 lead. Alex Rogers led off the inning with a single up the middle followed by a walk from Briana Gwaltney. With one out, Plemmons hit her second double of the day to give Charlotte the 1-0 advantage.

UNC-G pitcher Erica Navarette walked the next three Charlotte batters, giving up two runs. Nicole Thomas came in to relieve Navarette and immediately recorded the second out after striking out the next batter. However, Charlotte wasn't done just yet. Pinch hitter Lindsey Holloman drove in a pair of runs with a clutch hit to right field, giving the 49ers the 5-0 edge over the Spartans.

Charlotte tacked on three more runs in the seventh inning off three hits including a double from freshman Courtney Carroll that drove in two runs, a RBI single from Capone, and hit from Samantha Slade.

A grand slam by Eileen Horsmon in the bottom of the seventh cut Charlotte’s lead 8-4 but the Spartans (18-4) never threatened from that point on.

Plemmons was 2-for-3 with two runs and a RBI. She also notched her eighth multiple hit game of the season. Natalie Capone also finished with a pair of hits. Capone is currently on a seven game hitting streak and recorded her tenth multiple hit game.

Katie Watkins (7-7) went the distance and finished with a season-high 11 strikeouts.

In game one, Chelsea Liskatos’ double to left field in the seventh inning scored two runs to cut UNC-G’s lead to 8-6. The Niners loaded the bases with hits from Jessica Plemmons, Holloman, and Stamey to spark the rally but fell short in the comeback.

After trailing 8-1 to UNC-G in the fourth inning, the 49ers used three hits to score three runs to slice the Spartans’ lead to 8-4. Lisikatos led off the inning with a walk and moved to second off a groundout by Natalie Capone. Alex Rogers reached on a walk as Gwaltney singled to right field to score Lisikatos. With runners in scoring position, Chelsea Ingersoll recorded the second out after popping up to the second basemen. However, Plemmons kept the Niners’ fight alive and doubled to left center to tally a pair of RBIs. Samantha Slade singled; moving Plemmons to third but another pop up from the Niners would end the inning.

The Spartans took a 1-0 advantage in the second inning but Charlotte responded with two hits in the third to tie the game 1-1. With one out, Lisikatos singled to centerfield and advanced to second off a wild pitch. Capone used a single to left field and then stole second to put the Niners on second and third. With two outs, Gwaltney reached on a walk to load the bases. Charlotte scored a run on the next play as Ingersoll struck out but took advantage of the dropped third strike rule to reach first.

Capone, Lisikatos and Plemmons each finished with two hits.

Lisikatos fell to 4-2 in the circle but tallied a game-high five strikeouts.

The Niners have a week off until they host Fordham on Friday, March 22-23 for the Atlantic 10 Conference opener at D.L. Phillips Complex.
