Charlotte, NC - The Charlotte 49ers (8-5), who have won five of their last six matches, won all 18 contested matches for 7-0 wins over Catawba and Wingate at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex.
"I am happy with the way we competed in both matches today," Charlotte coach Billy Boykin said. "We had some great practices this past week and our guys came out ready to go. We will now focus on preparing for our upcoming match against Texas Pan American on Thursday."
In the Catawba match, the 49ers swept the doubles competition to claim the doubles point. At number one doubles, Charlotte's Paul Cisti and Alex Calott defeated Catawba's Alex Macdonald and Matthew Nicholson, 8-4. At number two doubles, Charlotte's Jack Williams and Jordi Massalle Ferrer defeated Catawba's Mitchell McDonald and Jack Mordey, 8-3. At number three doubles, Charlotte's Alex Weber and Hector Linares defeated Catawba's Aaron Vanhorenbeck and Jess Goodall, 8-6.
The 49ers won all six singles matches in straight sets to claim the victory. At number one singles, Charlotte's Williams defeated Catawba's Macdonald, 6-2, 7-5. At number two singles, Charlotte's Massalle Ferrer defeated Catawba's Goodall, 6-0, 6-1. At number three singles, Charlotte's Cisti defeated Catawba's Nicholson, 6-2, 6-0. At number four singles, Charlotte's Calott defeated Catawba's McDonald, 6-1, 7-6 (7-5). At number five singles, Charlotte's Krzysztof Kwasniewicz defeated Catawba's Mordey, 6-3, 6-2. At number six singles, Charlotte's Nate Shanok defeated Catawba's Vanhorenbeck, 6-0, 6-1.
In the Wingate match, the 49ers swept the doubles competition to claim the doubles point. At number one doubles, Charlotte's Williams' and Massalle Ferrer's match with Wingate's Kennedy Cancelado and Ryan Forbes was not finished due to the 49ers already claiming the doubles point. The 49ers were leading the match, 6-5. At number two doubles, Charlotte's Calott and Cisti defeated Wingate's Roberto Hennis and Westin Bennett, 8-2. At number three doubles, Charlotte's Kwasniewicz and Khalil defeated Wingate's Sebastian Hall and Josh Eardley, 8-2.
Charlotte won all six singles matches to claim the overall victory. At number one singles, Charlotte's Williams defeated Wingate's Cancelado, 6-2, 7-6 (7-3). At number two singles, Charlotte's Massalle Ferrer defeated Wingate's Hall, 6-4, 6-0. At number three singles, Charlotte's Calott defeated Wingate's Hennis, 6-4, 6-2. At number four singles, Charlotte's Cisti defeated Wingate's Forbes, 6-2, 6-3. At number five singles, Charlotte's Khalil defeated Wingate's Eardley, 6-2, 6-4. At number six singles, Charlotte's Shanok defeated Wingate's Bennett, 6-1, 6-1.
The 49ers return to action when they play Texas-Pan American at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex, Thursday, March 14 at 2:30 pm.
