CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte softball team fell 9-1 to Morehead State in five innings at the D. L. Phillips Complex Thursday afternoon.

It was the first time that the Niners (9-7 overall) have faced the Eagles (3-5) since March 10, 2006 where Charlotte won 11-2 in six innings at D.L. Phillips Complex.

However it was Morehead State’s 11 hits and early lead that lifted the Eagles, who haven’t played in almost two weeks to the victory.

The Eagles scored a run in the first inning and extended their lead to 8-0 in the second inning with seven runs, off four hits and a Charlotte error.

The 49ers cut MSU’s advantage to 8-1 in the bottom of the second inning. Kalie Lang led off with a single to left field. Jessie Fennell reached on a walk and the Niners loaded the bases after Lindsey Holloman hit a single to centerfield. Natalie Capone’s hit to centerfield allowed Lang to score Charlotte’s only run.

Morehead State tallied one run in the fifth inning off a hit and another Charlotte error, extending its lead to 9-1. The 49ers were unable to score in the bottom of the fifth, which ended the game.

Chelsea Ingersoll recorded her eighth multiple hit game of the season with a pair of hits against MSU. Capone finished with a hit and a RBI and Lang, Holloman, and Fennell each recorded one.

Lang appeared in her fourth game of the season in the circle and fell to 1-1. Chelsea Lisikatos pitched for 3.2 innings and recorded one strikeout.

Charlotte returns back to D.L. Phillips Complex on Friday, March 8 for a doubleheader against Gardner-Webb beginning at 4 p.m.
