Charlotte freshman Riley Davenport (Woodstock, Ga. / Sequoya HS) earned his first Atlantic 10 Golf Rookie of the Week honors, the league announced Wednesday.

Davenport posted a five-over 221 (74-72-75) at the Bayou City Collegiate Championships last weekend, contested at the Redstone Golf Club, which hosts the Shell Houston Open on the PGA Tour at the end of March.

After an opening-round two-over 74, Davenport helped Charlotte go low with his even-par 72 as all five golfers scored at par or better. He turned in Charlotte's second-best round of Sunday, a three-over 75, when 14 of the 15 teams posted higher scores than the previous day.

It was his best result in two tournaments with Charlotte, putting him in a tie for 31st in the 85-golfer field. Charlotte finished seventh in a strong field over the weekend.

Charlotte captured three Golfer of the Week honors in the fall (Hendry, 9/19; Cryderman, 10/17: Castro, 11/7) but this is the team's first Rookie of the Week for the season.

Charlotte will play again in two weeks at the Auburn Tiger Shootout at the Grand National Golf Club in Opelika, Alabama, starting Monday, March 11.
