Charlotte baseball captured the program's 1,000th win in a 7-3 Monday home win over Marshall in non-conference college baseball action at Robert and Mariam Hayes Stadium. The win kept the 49ers a perfect 3-0 at home and pushed the season record to 4-1. The Thundering Herd's season record is a level 3-3.

The teams agreed Saturday to schedule this game for Monday in Charlotte as each program had missed games due to weather and Marshall was in nearby Greensboro for a weekend series.

The 49ers overall program record is 1,000-844-6 in the 35th season of baseball at the institution.

Each team scored a run in the chilly temperatures of the first inning. Marshall got on the board first with a run on two hits and a walk. Designated Alfredo Brito drove in a run from second with an RBI single to right with two outs.

Charlotte countered in the bottom half after freshman second baseman Matt Creech (Moultrie, Ga. / Colquitt Co. HS) singled to lead off the innings and came around on a two-out triple from senior shortstop Shane Basen (Waxhaw, N.C. / Marvin Ridge HS) to tie the game. The triple was the tenth in Basen's career, putting him in tie for ninth all-time at Charlotte. It also extended his career-long hit streak to 14 games, dating back to last May.

Marshall retook the lead with a run on three consecutive hits in the second inning, the last driving in a run by second baseman Andrew Dundon for the 2-1 score.

Charlotte regained the lead with three runs in the third frame, aided by two Marshall errors. The 49ers had back-to-back RBI singles by junior left fielder Justin Seager (Kannapolis, N.C. / Northwest Cabarrus HS) and sophomore designated hitter Derek Gallello (Fredericksburg, Va. / Riverbend HS) for the two-run lead.

The Niners tacked on another unearned run in the sixth with two errors and singles by center fielder Michael Green (Richmond, Va. / Thomas Dale HS) and third baseman Justin Roland (Salisbury, N.C. / East Rowan HS). Roland has reached base safely in his last 34 games with Charlotte, going back to last season.

Two more unearned runs for Charlotte scored in the seventh, as redshirt freshman catcher Brett Lang (Charlotte, N.C. / Ardrey Kell HS) hit a two-out, two-RBI single for his only hit of the game. The Niners led 7-2 after seven.

The Herd plated an unearned run in the eighth on a throwing error for the game's final scoring play.

Charlotte starter Brock Hudgens (Jamestown, N.C. / Southwest Guilford HS) got the first win of his career (1-0) after a career-long five innings on the mound. He allowed five hits and struck out five, walking two and allowing two earned runs. Four Charlotte relievers preserved the win, with redshirt junior Jordan Hudson (Lexington, N.C. / West Davidson HS) picking up his first save of the season with a three-pitch strikeout with runners at first and third to end the game.

Marshall freshman Michael Taylor took the loss (0-1) in his first collegiate outing. He was charged with three runs, one earned, in 2.2 innings, striking out two and walking three.

Eight of the nine Charlotte hitters had the team's 10 hits, with two each for Roland and Seager. Seven different Marshall batters had the team's eight hits, with the team-high two from Dundon. Lang's pair of RBI led all hitters in the game.

The 49ers will play a regularly scheduled Tuesday contest at Wake Forest at 4 p.m.
