Charlotte golf fell to seventh after a final round 304 and an overall +14 (289-285-304 878) to conclude the Bayou City Collegiate Championships in Humble, Tex. at the Redstone Golf Club Sunday. Scores went up for 14 of 15 teams in the final round, with second-ranked Texas winning the event at -22, one of only two teams to finish under par for the weekend at the course, which will host the Shell Houston Open on the PGA Tour at the end of March.
"The golf course played much more difficult today for everyone, but honestly we did not play as well as we did in the first two rounds," said head coach Ryan Cabbage. "I think that is the most frustrating thing with the position we put ourselves in after 36 holes. With the quality of opponents here in this field, we could not afford to have the struggles we had today, so some teams unfortunately caught us. We will learn from this and will jump back into getting ready for our next tournament at Auburn in two weeks. "
Senior Braeden Cryderman (Huntsville, Ontario / Queens University of Charlotte) turned in a final round two-over 74 for Charlotte's best round of the day. He led the field with 45 pars in the 54-hole tournament. He finished in a tie for 22nd place with teammate Franco Castro (Alpharetta, Ga. / LSU) at two-over for the weekend.
Freshman Riley Davenport (Woodstock, Ga. / Sequoya HS) was third-best for Charlotte overall for the weekend. His three-over 75 Sunday landed him in a tie for 31st of the 85-player field, at five-over overall for the weekend.
Charlotte's next rounds of golf will take place at the Grand National Golf Club in Opelika, Ala. in the Auburn Tiger Shootout, beginning Monday, March 11.
